Paddle, Gunbower Island. Koondrook
But on the way up...... Wednesday 17th April, Shane , Roz, Avenel, & Peter.
Shane & I arrived at Ayson,s Reserve for two days paddling the Campaspe River, approx.. 10ks South of Rochester.
Bird life was abundant especially late Wed. afternoon on the water and early morning in camp. Evidence of the massive flood damage can be seen, with some fallen trees, four large square bales of hay lodged in trees as well as large pieces of wood, but it is now very tranquil, and with perfect weather it was a perfect river to paddle in either direction, back to Elmore or North.
This was not a club paddle, but, is very worthwhile as is the free roadside reserve camp area.
Sadly we had to leave Pat at home "Glaring" at an "Invalid" covid test? GRRRR
Friday we moved to Gunbower Island, Koondrook, to meet Avenel & Peter. This is a large island of free camp bush area, bordered by Gunbower Creek, again with abundant water birds, and of course Eagles spying on us from great heights, with other birds of prey.
Easy paddling, great company, a very long drive from here, but recommend it's a great thing to do.
A short paddle on Sunday morning, then returning home Sunday afternoon. Thanks heaps to Avenel for organising another fantastic weekend.
