Ken Moulton is seeking Expressions of Interest to complete the  UK Coast to Coast walk in September 2024;  Contact; Ken Moulton: email; This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.; Mobile; 0438 105442

This iconic English Coast to Coast Path meanders through three of England’s most beautiful national parks: the world-famous scenery of the Lake District, the gorgeous Yorkshire Dales and the exquisite wide open expanses of the North Yorkshire Moors. It’s an epic walking adventure that passes by stunning lakes, over rugged mountains, moors and dales and through charming rural villages.(see RAW Travel brochure here)

The walk is a multi day adventurous ramble from the Irish Sea at St Bees in Cumbria across the Pennine Hills and Yorkshire Moors to embrace the North Sea at Robin Hood’s Bay. Along the way, you’ll savour majestic mountain top views, stunning fells and dales and the most glorious tarns and becks in northern England. Enjoy countless small rustic villages, charming sheep and plenty of warm, welcoming inns and pubs.

If you would like to join Ken on this walk, please let him know your intention before the end of this month. This is a very popular walk and the accommodation is booked months if not years in advance - bookings will fill VERY FAST!

Ken has chosen a company called ‘Coast to Coast Packhorse’ as they are based on the walk itself in Kirby Stephen and do all of the arrangements and transport themselves.

Some people can traverse the walk in 10 days, Ken has chosen a longer 17 day walking itinerary with an extra rest day. The mileage per day is based on the distance that can be reasonably completed within 8 hours i.e. the hillier it is, then the shorter the distance. The group will travel with small daypacks as luggage will be transferred between B&Bs each day. 20km may seem a long way but just remember most Tuesday walks are 8km to 10km and SGWAAC complete them in 3 to four hours!

For an estimate of pricing Ken has assumed the group meet in Kirby Stephen and spend a night there. Any additional luggage not required on the walk can be left there. Then the group are taken to St Bees the following day to start the walk. Each day the walkers are dropped at the walk start point and collected at the end of that days walk. Each day luggage is collected from the B&B and transferred to the next location. Anyone who cannot walk or does not want to walk on any particular day can be taken to the next B&B.

At the end of the walk the group would stop in Robin Hood Bay and travel back to Kirby Stephen the following day. This is 20 nights. It is known there will be variations on where/when individuals meet to start and finish.

The cost for a 20 night trip would be about £2000 ($3850) per person. (Single supplement would apply at £45.00 ($85) extra per night for anyone requiring their own room and not sharing).

The package includes:

  • Very good quality accommodation with walker-friendly hosts.  (en-suite/private facilities and with tasty good breakfasts).
  • All your bag transfers.
  • Secure car-parking and excess luggage drop in Kirkby Stephen (if required).
  • Your transfer to St Bees and back from Robin Hood’s Bay.
  • A-Z Adventure Series map book and buff.
  • Any passenger transfers on days you are unable to walk.

The only other items you need to budget for extra on the walk are lunches (allow £7 ($13) a day) and evening meals (allow £25 ($48) for two course) along with personal spending and snacks.

You will also need to arrange your own flights. According to Ken 'cost of flights in the shoulder season of September/October are currently approx $2000. This is for flights between Melbourne and London with Emirates, Qatar or Qantas. There are cheaper flights but one may have to sit on the wing!!!"
